Flying Private to Marrakech: FBOs, Arrival and Transfers

Flying private to Marrakech means landing at Marrakech Menara (RAK), about 6 km from the city centre, and clearing police and customs inside a dedicated business aviation terminal run by two FBOs, Jetex and Swissport Executive Aviation. Flight time is roughly three hours from London, Paris or Geneva in a midsize jet, and from the terminal the villas whose pages list a drive time are 20 to 35 minutes away by road. This guide covers the handlers, flight times, the arrival process and transfer times to the Palmeraie, Amelkis and the Route de l’Ourika.
In short
- Marrakech Menara has a business aviation terminal, opened in February 2020, with an ONDA building for police and customs inside.
- Two FBOs operate there: Jetex, which lists 24/7 operations, and Swissport Executive Aviation.
- Typical private flight times: about 3 h from London, 2 h 45 to 3 h 25 from Paris, about 2 h 40 from Geneva, and around 8 h from Dubai.
- According to our villa pages, the airport is 20 to 22 minutes from Amelkis villas, 25 to 33 minutes from the Palmeraie and about 25 minutes from Villa Lyla on the Route de l’Ourika.
Marrakech Menara for private flights: the essentials
Marrakech has one airport, Marrakech Menara (IATA code RAK, ICAO code GMMX), south-west of the centre. Airline passengers use the main passenger terminals; private and business aviation has its own terminal, which opened in February 2020 after a tender by ONDA, the Moroccan airports authority. Marrakech was the second airport in Morocco, after Casablanca Mohammed V, to get a terminal entirely dedicated to business aviation.
For a passenger, this changes the arrival completely. You do not walk through the main terminal or queue at the airline passport desks: according to Swissport’s announcement of the opening, the VIP terminal includes an ONDA building for police and customs, so formalities happen on site. For the airline side of the airport, see our Marrakech Menara airport guide.

The two FBOs: Jetex and Swissport Executive Aviation
Jetex lists handling as mandatory at Marrakech, and your operator or broker chooses the FBO (fixed-base operator) that handles the aircraft, crew and passengers. Two share the business aviation complex.
| FBO | At Marrakech since | What it lists |
|---|---|---|
| Jetex | 2016; flagship terminal space from 2020 | 24/7 operations, customs and immigration, executive and crew lounges, VIP transport, catering, concierge |
| Swissport Executive Aviation | 1 February 2020 | More than 500 m², a lounge for up to 40 passengers with a bar, a VVIP lounge for up to nine guests, a crew floor |
The Jetex Marrakech page also notes that slots are required at Menara, which your operator arranges with the flight plan. In practice, the choice of FBO rarely matters to passengers: both handle the formalities inside the terminal and bring you to a waiting car. What matters more is telling your operator, and us, your exact arrival time and the number of passengers and bags.
Flight times from London, Paris, Geneva and Dubai
Private flight times depend on the aircraft, the winds and the departure airport. These are the ranges charter companies publish for each route, with the great-circle distance to Marrakech:
| From | Distance | Private jet, approx. | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| London (Farnborough, Luton, Biggin Hill) | about 2,300 km | 2 h 55 to 3 h 30 | Midsize and super-midsize jets fly it non-stop |
| Paris (Le Bourget) | about 2,100 km | 2 h 45 to 3 h 25 | Light jets take longest; a turboprop much longer |
| Geneva | about 2,000 km | about 2 h 35 to 2 h 40 | Midsize jet times; a turboprop takes nearly 5 h |
| Dubai | about 6,150 km | roughly 7 h 30 to 8 h 30 | Our estimate from the distance; needs a long-range jet or a fuel stop |
Times for London, Paris and Geneva are taken from charter operators’ published route estimates. For comparison, scheduled flights from London take around three and a half hours: see direct flights to Marrakech.
Arrival: customs and immigration, step by step
- Before departure
Passenger details to the handler
Your operator sends passport details to the FBO. Check that every passport is valid for at least three months after arrival and in good condition.
- On landing
Met at the aircraft
The handler meets the aircraft on the business aviation apron and takes passengers and bags to the terminal.
- In the terminal
Police and customs on site
Passports are stamped and bags cleared in the ONDA building inside the terminal, while you wait in the lounge.
- Kerbside
Into the car
Your car waits outside the terminal; if you need one arranged, ask us. From there, 20 to 35 minutes to the villas listed below.
British passport holders can visit Morocco for tourism for up to 90 days without a visa, as can citizens of the EU, the United States, Canada and many other countries; check the rules for your nationality in our Morocco visa guide. According to UK government travel advice, foreign currency worth 100,000 dirhams or more must be declared on arrival and departure.
Moroccan customs prohibits importing and flying drones without prior authorisation, which private visitors rarely obtain. A drone found in your luggage is likely to be held until you leave. Declare it on arrival if you do bring one.
From the terminal to your villa: transfer times
The airport is on the south-west edge of the city, which suits villas to the south and east. Drive times below come from the proximity figures on each villa’s page in our catalogue:
| Area | Example villas | Drive from the airport |
|---|---|---|
| Amelkis golf estate | Villa Idir, Villa Inocencia | 20 to 22 min |
| Four Seasons Marrakech | Villa Four Seasons | 24 min |
| Route de l’Ourika | Villa Lyla | 25 min |
| Palmeraie | Villa Noor, Villa Ellie, Villa Hazel | 25 to 33 min |
| Route de Fès, Route de Ouarzazate | Villa Lucia, Villa Alice | 35 min |
Villas further along the Route de l’Ourika, such as Villa Azarenka 30 km south of the city, are further out, and drive times grow at rush hour. Amelkis is the quickest arrival: read our Amelkis villa guide. For drivers, taxis and prices on the airline side, see Marrakech airport transfers.
Why a private villa pairs with private flying

Flying private buys you privacy and your own timetable. A hotel lobby undoes both; a villa keeps them. The house is rented whole, so there is no reception desk, no other guests at the pool and no one to notice who arrives.
It also handles the hours business aviation keeps. A jet can land at midnight; a staffed villa can be ready for it, with the lights on and the beds made, if you tell us your landing time ahead.
Be precise about staff hours, though, as they vary by house. At Villa Marhaba in the Palmeraie, dedicated staff are available around the clock, with a butler. At Villa Idir on the Amelkis golf course, staff work from 8 am to 11 pm, with a cook for meals and breakfasts. At Villa Noor, the cook does the shopping and you pay groceries at cost price plus delivery. Tell us your landing time and we check who will be at the house to welcome you; for anything beyond that, such as having a car meet you at the terminal, ask us. More in what a fully staffed villa includes.
Room for the whole party
A private jet often carries a family or several couples travelling together, and a villa keeps them under one roof. Our 39 villas in Marrakech and Oualidia run from 3 to 22 bedrooms, so a full cabin of eight to fourteen passengers fits in one house, around one dining table. For larger parties, see large villas for groups.
The departure day
Leaving is as simple as arriving. With formalities handled in the private terminal, you can stay at the villa for a last lunch by the pool and leave close to your slot, allowing for the 20 to 35 minute drive and the time your handler asks you to be at the terminal. Tell us your departure time so the house staff can plan breakfast, lunch and the bags around it.
Wheels down, passports stamped in the lounge, and half an hour later a swim under the palms.
Practical tips before you fly
- Give us your landing time, passenger count and number of bags as soon as the flight is planned
- Passports must be valid at least three months after arrival, and undamaged
- The dirham is not convertible abroad: change money or withdraw cash after landing; see cash and cards in Marrakech
- Bring a warm layer in winter: from December to February, average night-time lows are around 6 to 8 °C
- Leave drones at home unless you hold prior authorisation
- If you land late, ask for a light supper and breakfast supplies to be ready at the villa

Frequently asked questions
Which FBOs operate at Marrakech Menara?
Two: Jetex and Swissport Executive Aviation. Both are based in the business aviation terminal that opened at Marrakech Menara (RAK/GMMX) in February 2020. Jetex lists 24/7 operations, customs and immigration and an executive lounge; Swissport’s facility has a 40-seat lounge and a VVIP lounge for nine. Jetex lists handling as mandatory, and your operator chooses the FBO.
How long is a private flight from London to Marrakech?
Roughly 2 h 55 to 3 h 30, depending on the aircraft and the winds. The great-circle distance from the London area is about 2,300 km, which midsize and super-midsize jets fly non-stop. From Paris count 2 h 45 to 3 h 25, from Geneva about 2 h 40.
Do private jet passengers clear customs in the main terminal?
No. The business aviation terminal at Marrakech Menara includes a building of ONDA, the Moroccan airports authority, for police and customs, so passports are stamped and bags cleared inside the private terminal. Passengers wait in the lounge and walk out to their car, without passing through the airline terminals.
How far is Marrakech airport from the Palmeraie?
According to our villa pages, 25 to 33 minutes by road: Villa Noor is 25 minutes from the airport, Villa Ellie 30 and Villa Hazel 33. Villas on the Amelkis golf estate are closer, at 20 to 22 minutes, and Villa Lyla on the Route de l’Ourika about 25 minutes.
Can we arrive at the villa in the middle of the night?
Yes, if you tell us your landing time in advance. Staff hours vary by villa: at Villa Marhaba staff are available around the clock, while at Villa Idir they work from 8 am to 11 pm. Tell us when you land and we check who will welcome you; ask us about a light supper on arrival.
A private flight and a private villa are made for each other: same discretion, same freedom with time. Send us your dates, your landing time and the number of guests, and we suggest the villas closest to Menara that suit your group, with the house ready when you arrive.
