Christmas in a Private Villa in Marrakech (2026)

Christmas in a private villa in Marrakech means sunny 20 °C afternoons, cold nights by the fire, and Christmas lunch cooked by your villa’s staff and served on the terrace, with the snow-capped Atlas on the horizon. Morocco does not stop for Christmas: 25 December is an ordinary working day, so the souks and monuments are open while you have the house to yourselves. For December 2026, villas with a heated pool and enough bedrooms for the whole family tend to be booked first, so this is the time to book.
In short
- Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday. It is not a public holiday in Morocco: shops, souks and sights keep normal hours.
- Expect daytime highs around 20 °C and nights of 6 to 8 °C; the sun sets at about 18:30.
- Choose a villa with a heated pool and a fireplace: 14 of our villas have a pool that is heated or can be heated on request.
- Our villas usually have a minimum stay of three nights, and rates peak from mid-December to early January: ask us for a quote for your dates.
- French school holidays begin on Saturday 19 December 2026, so flights and villas for that week fill early.
Why spend Christmas in a Marrakech villa
A hotel at Christmas means a set gala dinner in a room full of strangers. A villa means your own table, your own tree, your own timetable. The children open presents in pyjamas, the adults take a long lunch in the sun, and nobody has to cook or wash up: our villas come with staff, as listed for each house, and 16 listings name a cook, a chef or a butler.
It is also a short trip. Marrakech is about three and a half hours from London and a little over three from Paris, and an hour ahead of the UK in winter, so there is no jet lag for grandparents or toddlers. You can arrive on the 23rd, have four days of sun and fire, and still be home for the New Year, or stay on for it: see New Year’s Eve in Marrakech.
What a staffed villa includes, and what it does not, is set out in what a fully staffed rental includes.
The weather in late December
Late December is mild by day and cold at night. Long-term averages at Marrakech-Menara give daytime highs of about 20 °C and night-time lows of 6 to 8 °C; on a clear night in the Palmeraie it can feel colder. Rain is limited to a few days in the month. Days are short: the sun rises at about 8:30 and sets at about 18:30, so plan outings for late morning and early afternoon.
| Late December | What to expect | What it means at the villa |
|---|---|---|
| Afternoon | About 20 °C, usually sunny | Lunch outside, a swim in a heated pool |
| Evening and night | 6 to 8 °C on average | Fireplace, heated rooms, dinner indoors |
| Daylight | Sunset around 18:30 | Outings in the middle of the day |
| Atlas Mountains | Snow on the peaks most winters | A day trip to the snow is possible |
Pack for two seasons: light clothes for the afternoon, warm jumpers and a coat for the evening. More on the month: Marrakech in December.
What is open on 25 December in Marrakech
Morocco is a Muslim country and Christmas is not on its list of public holidays. In practice that works in your favour: on Friday 25 December 2026 the souks, the Jardin Majorelle, the palaces, supermarkets and restaurants are open as on any other day. Friday is the main day of prayer, so some stalls in the souks close for a while around midday.
- Christmas services: the Catholic church of the Saints-Martyrs, on Rue Imam Ali in Gueliz, holds Christmas masses. Check the year’s times locally or with the diocese before you go.
- Hotel dinners: palace hotels such as La Mamounia and the Royal Mansour usually put on a Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day menus. Book well ahead if you want a meal out.
- Sightseeing: with Morocco working normally, the 25th is a good day for the medina, the palaces and the Jardin Majorelle.
- Shopping: last-minute presents in the souks, from lanterns to leather and spices.
Christmas decorations are limited to hotels and a few shops in Gueliz. Bring your own decorations, crackers and stocking fillers, or ask us before you arrive whether the house can be decorated.
Christmas lunch at the villa, cooked by your chef

Sixteen of our listings name a cook, a chef or a butler. At Villa Noor, in the Palmeraie, the team is a cook, a housekeeper and a caretaker, and you pay only the groceries at cost plus delivery. At Villa Lyla the staff propose Moroccan or European dishes, then shop and cook. At Villa Idir, on the Amelkis golf, staff work from 8:00 to 23:00.
A Christmas lunch can be fully Moroccan (pastilla, a slow-cooked tanjia, a lamb tagine with prunes and almonds) or a European table. Ingredients such as a turkey, chestnuts or a Christmas pudding are not everyday items in Marrakech, so send the menu early, or pack what matters most.
- Agree the menu, the price, the number of guests and the staff’s hours on 24 and 25 December in writing
- For the wine, see where to buy alcohol in Marrakech, and stock the house before the 24th
- Groceries delivered to the door: grocery delivery for villa stays
Heated pools and warm houses
At 20 °C in the afternoon, an unheated pool is for the brave. Fourteen of our villas have a pool that is heated or can be heated on request (the full list: villas with a heated pool), and they fall into three groups. Villa Mangue (6 bedrooms, Route de Tahanout) has a pool heated all year, and Villa Eva (5 bedrooms, Samanah golf) a heated pool. Villa Nolan (10 bedrooms, Palmeraie) has two pools, one of them heated; Villa Inocencia, Villa Andalucía and Villa Azarenka also list a heated pool. At Villa Hazel, Villa Aria, Villa Perla and Villa Lucia the pool is heated on request.
Ask for a quote that includes pool heating for your dates, and check that the house has fireplaces or heating in the bedrooms. Many of our villas list a fireplace; nights at 6 °C make it the centre of the evening. Full list: villas with a heated pool.
Villa MangueFrom €750 a night
Villa EvaFrom €995 a night
Villa HazelFrom €1,200 a night
Villa NolanFrom €2,000 a nightVilla Hazel sleeps 12 in six suites, with a hammam for two and a 15-metre pool heated on request. Villa Nolan’s two houses, with seven bedrooms in one and three master suites in the other, suit two families who want to share Christmas lunch but not a breakfast table.
Family activities between Christmas and New Year

With short days, plan one outing a day and be back for a late lunch by the pool. These work well with children in late December:
- Half a day
Camels and the Agafay desert
The stony Agafay desert is about an hour away, for a camel or quad ride and lunch at a camp.
- Morning
Gardens and the medina
The Jardin Majorelle and Le Jardin Secret in the late morning sun, then the souks before the light fades.
- A full day
Snow at Oukaïmeden
About 80 km and 90 minutes by road, with a short ski season from December to March, snow permitting. Read skiing at Oukaïmeden before you go.
- At the villa
A cooking class or a hammam
A tagine class with the cook, or the villa’s own hammam. Several of our villas have one; ask when you book.

Flights for Christmas week
Direct flights reach Marrakech from London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted), Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly), Geneva and many other European cities, in about three and a half hours from London and a little over three from Paris. Routes and airlines: direct flights to Marrakech from Europe.
Christmas week is one of the busiest of the year. In France, the Christmas holidays begin on Saturday 19 December 2026 and classes resume on Monday 4 January 2027, the same dates for every zone according to the French school calendar, and UK schools break up around the same weekend. Book flights as soon as the villa is confirmed, not the other way round. Menara airport is about 6 km from the centre, and the villa listings that give a drive time put the airport 20 to 35 minutes away: ask us about a transfer when you book.
Book early: minimum stays and peak rates
Our villas usually have a minimum stay of three nights; ask us whether a longer one applies over the holidays. Rates are higher at Christmas and New Year, peaking from mid-December to early January; our listings show starting prices only, so ask us for a quote for your exact dates.
The villas that go first for Christmas are the ones with a heated pool, a cook and six or more bedrooms. If that is what you need, ask before the end of October.
- Deposit and cancellation terms are set in each rental contract: ask us for them before you pay
- Read our guide first: deposits, contracts and cancellation
Your Christmas table, by your own pool
Tell us your dates, how many you are and whether you need a heated pool or a cook. We reply with the villas still free for Christmas and a quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is Christmas celebrated in Marrakech?
Not as a public holiday: Morocco is a Muslim country and 25 December is a normal working day. Palace hotels such as La Mamounia and the Royal Mansour usually host Christmas dinners, the Saints-Martyrs church in Gueliz holds Christmas masses, and in a private villa you celebrate exactly as you would at home.
What is the weather like in Marrakech at Christmas?
Mild and mostly sunny by day, with highs around 20 °C, and cold at night, with average lows of 6 to 8 °C. The sun sets at about 18:30. Pack light layers for lunch outside and warm clothes for the evening, and choose a villa with a fireplace and a heated pool.
Are shops and sights open on 25 December in Marrakech?
Yes. Because Christmas is not a public holiday in Morocco, souks, monuments, gardens, supermarkets and restaurants keep their normal hours on 25 December. In 2026 the day falls on a Friday, the main prayer day, when some souk stalls close for a while around midday.
Can the villa cook prepare a Christmas lunch?
In villas with a cook, yes, but agree it in advance. Sixteen of our listings name a cook, a chef or a butler. Send your menu early, since items such as turkey or Christmas pudding may need ordering or bringing, and confirm in writing the price, guest numbers and staff hours on 24 and 25 December.
How far ahead should I book a villa for Christmas in Marrakech?
As soon as your dates and group size are fixed; October is not too early for December. Rates peak from mid-December to early January, the minimum stay is usually three nights, and deposit and cancellation terms are set in each contract. Villas with heated pools, cooks and six or more bedrooms are booked first.
Christmas in Marrakech is the rare winter holiday where lunch outside is the norm and the fire is lit by six. Tell us who is coming, what matters most (a heated pool, a cook, room for the grandparents) and your dates, and we will tell you which villas are still free.
