Heated Pool Villa in Marrakech in Winter: A Guide
A heated pool villa in Marrakech is what makes a winter swim possible. From December to February, days average 19 to 21 °C at best and nights 6 to 8 °C, far below a comfortable pool. Of our 38 Marrakech villas, 14 heat their pool, always or on request, and seven of them start under €1,000 a night.
Marrakech is a popular winter escape, a few hours’ flight from much of Europe, and many travellers picture breakfast by the pool in January. The sun is real, but so are the cold nights, and they decide whether the pool is usable. This guide uses the World Meteorological Organization’s 1991–2020 climate normals for the Marrakech-Menara station and the 38 Marrakech listings on this site to answer three questions: how cold it really gets, which villas heat the pool, and what to ask before you pay. All prices are starting prices per night for the whole villa.
- Warm days are rare in winter. Marrakech averages 0.9 days reaching 25 °C in January, 1.9 in December and 4.7 in February.
- Heating is not a luxury marker. The six villas that heat on request have a median starting price of €975, below the €1,365 of villas that do not mention heating.
- Only two listings promise year-round heating in writing: Villa Mangue (“year-round heated pool”) and Villa Eva (a heated pool to use “throughout the year”).
How cold is Marrakech in winter?
Marrakech has mild days and cold nights from November to March. The table below gives the official averages for the Marrakech-Menara weather station, next to the airport, over the thirty years 1991–2020.
| Month | Average high | Average low | Average over 24 h | Days reaching 25 °C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| November | 23.1 °C | 10.7 °C | 16.9 °C | 10.4 |
| December | 20.1 °C | 7.3 °C | 13.7 °C | 1.9 |
| January | 19.1 °C | 5.9 °C | 12.5 °C | 0.9 |
| February | 20.7 °C | 7.6 °C | 14.2 °C | 4.7 |
| March | 23.6 °C | 10.3 °C | 17.0 °C | 13.2 |

Two figures matter for a pool. The first is the average over 24 hours: 12.5 °C in January, because every sunny afternoon is followed by a long, cold night. The second is the number of warm days. Across December, January and February together, Marrakech averages 7.5 days reaching 25 °C. Frost is rare, but it happens: January averages 0.2 nights below zero, and the station’s lowest reading in the period was −3.6 °C.

Can you swim in an unheated villa pool in winter?
A few hardy swimmers will, but most people will not stay in for long. No villa listing measures the water temperature of an unheated pool, so we will not invent one. What the climate data shows is the size of the gap. Swim England’s guidance sets the recommended maximum at 29 °C for recreational pools, 30 °C for leisure pools, 31 °C for children’s swimming lessons and 32 °C for babies and young children. In January, the average air temperature over a whole day in Marrakech is 12.5 °C, about 16 °C below that 29 °C mark. At night, the gap is more than 20 °C.
An outdoor pool loses heat to that cold air every night of the winter, and a few hours of afternoon sun cannot make up for it. That is why the question to ask for a winter stay is not “does the villa have a pool?” (almost every listing has one) but “is the pool heated for my dates?”.
Which villas in Marrakech have a heated pool?
Fourteen of our 38 Marrakech villas mention pool heating in their listing: eight describe a heated pool and six a pool heated on request. Our pricing guide already gave that count. The table below goes further, with each villa’s area, size and price per bedroom, so you can compare like with like.
| Villa | Area | Bedrooms | From per night | Heating in the listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Villa Harmony | Amelkis golf | 5 | €650 | Heated pool |
| Villa Perla | Amelkis golf | 5 | €650 | On request |
| Villa Petra | Sidi Abdellah Ghiat | 5 | €650 | On request |

Three things stand out. The golf estates lead: four of our seven golf villas can heat their pool, against four of 12 in the Palmeraie. None of our villas on the Amizmiz and Ouarzazate roads, and neither of the two villas in town, mentions pool heating. And seven heated villas start under €1,000 a night, all with four to six bedrooms.
Is a heated pool villa more expensive?
Not in our catalogue. You might expect heating to come with the most expensive houses. The listings show a different picture:
| Pool heating in the listing | Villas | Median from price | Median € per bedroom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heated pool | 8 | €1,498 | €200 |
| Heated on request | 6 | €975 | €175 |
| Not mentioned | 24 | €1,365 | €209 |
Villas that heat on request are the cheapest group, both per night and per bedroom, because they include three five-bedroom houses at €650 to €750. Villas with a heated pool cost about the same per bedroom as villas that do not mention heating. In other words, heating depends on the house, not on its price bracket, and a winter stay with a warm pool does not have to mean a luxury budget.
The listings do not say whether heating is included in the price or charged on top, and “on request” suggests it may be an extra. Ask for a quote that includes pool heating for your exact dates, and compare that total, not the starting price. For budget options, see our villas under €1,000 a night.
“Heated”, “on request”, “all year round”: what the listings mean
Three different phrases appear in our listings, and they do not promise the same thing.
Heated all year round
Only two listings say in writing that the pool can be used all year. Villa Mangue, on the Route de Tahanaout, describes a “year-round heated pool”, and Villa Eva, on the Samanah golf estate, a heated pool that “will allow you to relax throughout the year”. If swimming every day of a January stay matters, start with these two.
Heated pool
Six more listings describe a heated pool without saying when heating runs: Villa Harmony, Villa Inocencia, Villa Mansouria, Villa Andalucía, Villa Azarenka and, for one of its two pools, Villa Nolan. Ask whether the heating will be on for your dates and at what temperature.
Heated on request
Six listings heat on request: Villa Perla, Villa Petra, Villa Lucia, Villa Hazel, Villa Aria and Olive Palace. Here the heating has to be booked. Ask for it when you book, not on arrival, and ask when it will be switched on: a large body of cold water takes time to warm up, so heating that starts the day you land may not give you a warm pool on day one.
Why pool size matters for a winter stay
Pool size changes how hard a heater has to work. The US Department of Energy notes that evaporation is “by far the largest source of energy loss” for swimming pools, and that covering a pool when it is not in use is the most effective way to cut heating costs, with savings of 50% to 70% possible. Evaporation happens at the surface, so a larger surface loses more heat.
Seven of our listings give both dimensions or a single surface for one pool, and the range is wide: from 24 m² at Villa Arwa (8 × 3 m) and 45 m² at Villa Deluxe Almaaden, through 61 m² for Villa Nolan’s pools (the listing does not say whether each or together), 102 m² at Villa Asana and 136 m² at Villa Grace, to 180 m² at Palais Mauresque (20 × 9 m) and 324 m² at Villa Azarenka (18 × 18 m). Azarenka’s heated pool has 13.5 times the surface of Villa Arwa’s. Olive Palace has a 28 m infinity pool heated on request, and Villa Hazel has a 15 m pool heated on request.
For you, this means two practical questions. Does the pool have a cover for the night? And if the villa has two pools, which one is heated? At Villa Nolan, for example, each of the two houses has its own pool, and the heated one is beside the three-suite house, which matters if you rent only the seven-bedroom house.
Beyond the pool: hammams, fireplaces and heating in the house
A warm pool is only half of a comfortable winter stay. The other half is the house after sunset, when the temperature falls towards 6 °C.
- Hammam. Nine of the 14 villas that heat their pool also mention a hammam in their description: Villa Harmony, Villa Perla, Villa Petra, Villa Lucia, Villa Hazel, Villa Nolan, Villa Andalucía, Villa Mansouria and Villa Azarenka. Nine more villas have a hammam but do not mention pool heating, including Villa Asana, Villa Ellie, Villa Luna and Palais Mauresque, whose marble hammam takes up to eight people per session. On a cold evening, a hammam can replace the swim. If you would rather go out, see our guide to the best hammams in Marrakech.
- Fireplaces. Fourteen listings mention a fireplace in the text. Four combine a fireplace with a heated pool or heating on request: Villa Mansouria, Villa Lucia, Villa Petra and Olive Palace.
- Heating in the bedrooms. Villa Harmony, Villa Nolan and Dar Louisa mention reversible air conditioning, which heats as well as cools, and Villa Nolan adds auxiliary heaters. Many houses in Marrakech were built for the heat, so ask how the bedrooms are heated.
- Winter views. Four listings describe snow-capped Atlas peaks in winter: Dar Louisa, Villa Marhaba, Villa Aria and Villa Zagora.
When is a heated pool worth it?
From November to March, a heated pool changes the trip. The climate normals give a simple rule of thumb.
- November and March average 10 to 13 days reaching 25 °C, and nights of around 10 °C. An unheated pool can be tempting on the warmest afternoons, but a heated one is what makes daily swimming realistic. See Marrakech in November and Marrakech in March.
- December, January and February have almost no warm days (7.5 in total across the three months). For a swim in this period, book a villa that heats its pool, and preferably one that heats it all year.
- April to October is warm enough that heating is rarely the question; shade and cool bedrooms matter more. See our month-by-month weather guide.
Winter also includes the busiest dates of the year. Christmas and New Year are when the largest villas book up first, so if you want a heated pool for the festive season, book early and read our guide to New Year’s Eve in a Marrakech villa. For how prices move across the year, see the cheapest time to rent a villa in Marrakech.
What to ask before booking a heated pool villa
- Is the pool heated for my exact dates? Get a yes in writing, not a “usually”.
- Is heating included, or how much does it add? Ask for a total price for the stay with heating.
- What temperature will the water reach? As a reference, Swim England’s recommended maximum is 29 °C for recreational pools and up to 32 °C for babies and young children.
- When is the heating switched on? Ask for it to start before you arrive.
- Is there a pool cover? It keeps the heat in overnight.
- How are the bedrooms heated? Fireplace, reversible air conditioning or heaters.
Our villas have a minimum stay of three nights, so a winter weekend at Villa Harmony, for example, starts from €1,950 before heating and extras. Browse all our villas in Marrakech, or send us your dates and ask for the heated options.

Our listings do not say, so ask for a quote that includes pool heating for your dates. Heating described as “on request” may be charged as an extra.
What is the cheapest villa with a heated pool in Marrakech?
Villa Harmony, Villa Perla and Villa Petra all start at €650 a night for five bedrooms. Harmony has a heated pool, while Perla and Petra heat theirs on request. Villa Mangue, from €750, is heated all year round.
